Enhancing Between Visit Communication with Caregivers in Early Intervention

Part 1 of this webinar series focuses on the importance of enhancing communication occurring between visits with caregivers receiving Part C Early Intervention services. Topics include:

  • Summary of research conducted on between visit communication with caregivers.
  • The importance of communication with caregivers, specifically to provide support between visits, including case study examples.
  • How between visit communication can enhance the Getting Ready Approach and connect to the framework for delivering routines-based early intervention.

About the Presenters: Dr. Johanna Higgins is an Early Interventionist and Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) that resides in Omaha, Nebraska with her husband and two young sons. Currently, she is serving as a independent contractor supporting EI/ECSE research and professional development projects. Dr. Kuhn is an Associate Professor in the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Her primary area of interest is early childhood special education, and she has been involved in research regarding promoting family-professional partnerships to address developmental, social-emotional, and behavioral needs of young children. Dr. Kuhn is a nationally certified school psychologist, and has had experience as a Head Start family educator and a primary grade teacher.

Exploring Between Visit Communication Strategies & Apps to Support Caregivers in Early Intervention

Part 2 of this webinar series will provide strategies to enhance communication between Early Intervention (Part C) home visits including:

  • Strengthening the Getting Ready Approach (and use of routines-based early intervention) through between-visit interactions with caregivers.
  • Exploring ideas/suggestions to enhance communication with the caregivers you support.
  • Recommended phone applications (i.e., apps) to enhance communication between visits with caregivers receiving EI.
