The Nebraska Early Development Network is sponsoring two engaging virtual trainings designed to support professionals working with young children and families across Nebraska. These sessions are ideal for EDN Services Coordinators, Early Intervention and Special Education Providers, Early Childhood Educators, Head Start/Early Head Start, Sixpence, Home Visitors, and other early childhood professionals.

Enhance Safety & Cultural Connection

Presented by Jill Knox and Angie Graham, UNL Center on Children, Families, and the Law

Enhance your confidence, safety, and connection with families through these engaging training sessions designed specifically for home visitors. Each training day will begin with the Professional Safety (2 hours) session, followed by a 30-minute break, and then continue with Cultural Humility (1.5 hours). Home visitors may choose to attend one or both topic sessions on a given day to strengthen their skills and deepen their impact in the field.


Professional Safety (2 hours)

Gain the confidence and skills to make every home visit safe, professional, and impactful. This interactive training prepares home visitors to:

  • Assess home environments and recognize potential safety concerns
  • Apply practical strategies to maintain personal and professional boundaries
  • Strengthen communication skills through real-world scenarios
  • Build awareness and professionalism while supporting families in their homes

Cultural Humility (1.5 hours)

Enhance your ability to connect authentically with families from all backgrounds. This session introduces the principles of cultural humility and self-reflection to help home visitors:

  • Acknowledge personal perspectives and respect cultural differences
  • Build trust through empathy and understanding
  • Engage respectfully in diverse home environments
  • Apply reflection and discussion to real-world examples

These sessions are offered free of charge.

Home visitors may choose to attend one or both topic sessions (Professional Safety/Cultural Humility) offered on a training day.
Each full training day totals 4 hours (3.5 hours of training plus a 30-minute break).
